South Korea's exports soared 83.5% to a record $120.9 billion in September, the first month ever above $120 billion. Semiconductor shipments jumped 263% to $60.3 billion, and nine-month exports of $814.5 billion already exceed last year's full-year record.

Tokyo core consumer prices rose 2.7% in September, the fastest pace in ten months and well above the 2.4% forecast. The Bank of Japan, which raised rates to a 31-year high of 1.25% last month, meets again on 29–30 October.

The Bank of Japan's tankan index for large manufacturers rose to +24 in September from +22, improving for a sixth straight quarter. Firms expect inflation of 2.6% a year from now, above the central bank's 2% target.
