🇺🇸 USA Business Report
Economic Outlook, Trade Developments & Business Opportunities
August 2026 Update
GENERAL OVERVIEW
The United States of America is one of the world's largest economies, most influential political powers, and leading centers of innovation, finance, technology, industrial production, trade, and consumption.
With a population of more than 340 million people, a highly developed infrastructure network, strong purchasing power, advanced financial markets, and a diversified economic structure, the United States remains one of the most important destinations for international exporters, investors, manufacturers, technology companies, and service providers.
The country offers considerable opportunities across artificial intelligence, industrial machinery, automotive spare parts, mining, critical minerals, energy, construction, natural stone, electrical equipment, tourism, hospitality, logistics, healthcare, agriculture, and professional services.
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
The United States is located in North America, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
Alaska is situated in the northwestern part of the continent, while Hawaii is located in the central Pacific Ocean.
Its strategic location provides direct commercial access to North America, Latin America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. The country's extensive coastline, major ports, airports, railways, highways, and logistics centers support one of the world's largest domestic and international transportation networks.
-------------------- NEWS --------------------
U.S. ECONOMIC GROWTH SLOWS, WHILE DOMESTIC DEMAND REMAINS STRONG
The U.S. economy expanded at an annualized rate of 1.5% during the second quarter of 2026, slowing from 2.1% in the first quarter.
The slowdown was mainly linked to a wider trade deficit and an increase in imports. However, consumer spending, private investment, exports, and business expenditure continued to support economic activity.
Consumer spending increased at an annualized pace of approximately 3.2%, while business investment in equipment grew strongly. Investment associated with artificial intelligence, data centers, digital infrastructure, semiconductors, and advanced technologies remained an important source of economic activity.
FEDERAL RESERVE KEEPS INTEREST RATES UNCHANGED
At its meeting on July 28–29, 2026, the Federal Reserve maintained the federal funds target range at 3.50%–3.75%.
The decision reflected continuing concerns about inflation, employment, energy prices, geopolitical risks, tariffs, and the overall direction of the economy.
The Federal Reserve stated that future monetary-policy decisions would depend on incoming economic data and changes in the balance of risks.
INFLATION REMAINS AN IMPORTANT ECONOMIC CHALLENGE
U.S. consumer prices increased by 3.5% during the twelve months ending in June 2026.
Energy prices rose considerably, while food, housing, services, and transportation costs continued to affect households and businesses. However, the monthly consumer price index declined by 0.4% in June, following an increase in May.
Persistent inflation could influence interest rates, consumer demand, production expenses, transportation costs, and future business-investment decisions.
LABOR MARKET REMAINS RELATIVELY STABLE
The U.S. unemployment rate stood at 4.2% in June 2026, while nonfarm payroll employment increased by approximately 57,000 jobs.
Although employment growth has moderated, the labor market remains relatively stable. Companies continue to face changing labor costs, skills shortages, automation requirements, and growing demand for technical expertise.
AI INVESTMENT CONTINUES TO SUPPORT BUSINESS ACTIVITY
Investment in artificial intelligence remains one of the strongest components of U.S. corporate expenditure.
Demand is increasing for data centers, semiconductors, cooling technologies, electrical equipment, power-generation systems, cybersecurity, cloud services, automation, industrial software, and advanced engineering solutions.
This development is creating opportunities not only for major technology companies but also for international suppliers serving the wider AI and digital-infrastructure ecosystem.
------------------------------------------------
POLITICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE
The United States is a federal republic consisting of 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Washington, D.C. is the federal capital and the center of national government. Each state has its own government, legislation, taxation system, economic structure, and investment environment.
For international businesses, this means that market-entry conditions may differ significantly between states. Regulations, taxation, labor costs, licensing requirements, incentives, consumer preferences, and distribution systems should therefore be evaluated at both federal and state levels.
Important commercial and industrial states include:
